Open Day - Easter Sunday 24 April 2011

FE9852 VV8934 DS7122

We would like to thank everyone who came to and took part in our first major event of 2011. A very warm and sunny day (in contrast to some recent events, including the Easter 2008 Open Day that was greeted with snow) saw around 500 visitors come to the Museum for the day.

27 buses / coaches from the Museum collection and owned by members and friends, along with four cars from the Museum collection were on the road and offering rides.

A full 'service' debut was made by Museum residents Bristol RE coach Lincolnshire 1431 and Daimler CWD6 Northampton 129, and among the visiting buses appearing for the first time were Derby Corporation 27 and London Transport RML 2619. Series 1 Bristol VR, Lincolnshire 1904 made a surprise appearance for its first outing in preservation, although as the interior was not complete, it did not carry passengers. We hope it will be in full 'service' at our November event.

As ever, we are indebted to all the owners of participating vehicles, and our friends and neighbours - Anglo Structural Engineering Ltd, Green of Lincoln, A Green Engineering (Lincoln) Ltd, all the businesses at Hillcroft Business Park, Krystals Ltd and Lincolnshire Co-operative Ltd - for the use of their premises, and Stagecoach in Lincolnshire for their ongoing support.

We would welcome any more photographs taken at the event (particularly those showing vehicles 'in action') for inclusion on our web site or possible publication in the Society's newsletter.

Some of our visitors have put their photo / video selections / blog on the web, including 'Calambus' , Lincs & East Yorkshire Transport Review, 'AC Best' and James Morgan - part 1 - part 2 - part 3.
