Open Day

We invite new and regular visitors to our established 'end of season' event, attracting visitors from near and far - a 'must' for enthusiasts and anyone with a passing interest in old vehicles.

This year's event will have a theme of Bristol vehicles - 2008 being the centenary of Bristol Commercial Vehicles - although other vehicles will be welcome!

We open up our workshop building, to show our current restoration projects, offer an opportunity to start the Christmas shopping at the many enthusiasts' sales stalls, the chance to see a wide range of visiting historic / classic vehicles large and small, and of course the opportunity to travel on a selection of the vehicles from our Museum as well as some owned by our members and friends. In recent years, our November events have featured between 25 - 30 buses / coaches 'in service' for the day.

We hope you will stay long enough to visit our refreshment stand, which will offer hot and cold drinks, filled rolls, and a tempting selection of cakes.

If you would like to bring a historic / classic vehicle, there is no 'booking in' - we will do our best to find space for you - although we'd appreciate it if you contact us first, particularly if you're bringing a large vehicle!

Admission to this event is £ 5 per adult with accompanied children under 16 free of charge. Admission includes a programme and running schedule for the free bus services offering the chance to plan any rides on favourite vehicles.

There will be a regular, free, bus service to and from Lincoln City Centre, a 'park and ride' service, and 'country bus services' and 'excursions' - All 'bus services' including tours are free. The last departures on our 'bus services' are at 5.00 pm, offering a rare chance to see buses with old fashioned light bulbs running at twilight and beyond.

All funds raised will go towards the running of our open days and upkeep of the Museum and vehicles.

Report and pictures from past open days - Easter 2008 - November 2007 - Easter 2007

More detail on the Bus Services - as well as details of the vehicles expected to be 'in service' - will appear on this site closer to the event.

We would respectfully ask visitors to use one of these bus services to get to the Museum rather than obstructing the streets near to the Museum with parked cars, as this can make it difficult for us to operate bus services and can be dangerous for pedestrians. Limited car parking facilities will be provided at the Museum for blue badge (disabled driver) holders only.

Not Just Buses!
Historic cars from the Museum collection will be giving free rides as well - these will run from the Hillcroft Business Park forecourt next door.

EllieLast but most certainly not least, don't forget to visit our 'Ellie' the Elephant. Born in our Museum in April 2000 and now weighing in the region of thirty thousand pounds! Visit the information stand in our Museum Hall to see what this is all about.

If you require any further information, please e- mail us {short description of image}or telephone the Museum on 01522 500566 (answer-phone when Museum is not open.)
