Bedford 4-wheel flatbed lorry

DVL 577 - 1949 Bedford MLD Lorry

C Pratt & Sons

Part of the popular Bedford M series of commercial vehicles, first built in 1939, and in production until 1953, DVL 577 is a 2/3 ton lorry powered by the 28hp 6-cylinder petrol engine, with a 4-speed gearbox with single dry plate clutch. Brakes are Lockheed hydraulic, servo assisted operating on all four wheels.

The MLD variety represents (L) the longer wheelbase of the 10' or 11' 11" options available, and the "D" represents a drop-side lorry body.

Originally purchased from Charles Warner by C Pratt and Son, wine and spirit merchants, it spent its entire working life in and around Lincoln with this company, making deliveries to the Lincoln licensed trade. It ceased work in the late in the late 1960's and stored until it was purchased for preservation in 1987 when it was restored to pristine condition over a two-year period.
