Daimler 4.2L Limousine

F285 RVL 1989 Daimler 4.2L Limousine (formerly JFE 1)

This car was used as Lincoln's Mayoral transport from new in 1989 to 1996 when it was replaced with a similar (but black) DS420 which is the correct model number.

In service it carried the registration plate JFE 1 which has been retained for the current and future cars. Lincoln City Council permit the continued display of the plates on the preserved car whilst on display in the Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society's Road Transport Museum or at rallies while on private ground. When used on the road, it becomes F285 RVL.

The Daimler is powered by a Jaguar Group 4.2 litre XK engine with six in-line cylinders which gives relaxed cruising at 70mph, but fuel consumption of around 11mpg. Transmission is via a GM 400 automatic gearbox.

The car was one of the last true limousines available - now it is normally a case of 'stretching' large production saloons. The last DS 420 was built in 1994 and the last but one was sold to the Queen Mother.
