GRW 382 - 1947 Austin K4 5-ton drop side lorry

1974 Austin K4

Built at Austin's Longbridge, Birmingham, factory, where the K series of light commercial vehicles was built between the 1930s and 1950s. Sales of Austin products had been particularly successful during the 1930's and wartime production boosted their number, and led to heavier models (such as the K4) being introduced. This model has a 4 litre, straight six petrol engine.

Other than having been registered in Coventry, we have not been able to trace the past history of this vehicle prior to its purchase for preservation over 20 years ago from Swaton Garage. This lorry has recently returned to running order after undergoing a comprehensive restoration.

Austin K4 underside

an unusual camera angle - the underside of GRW 382. We do not recommend trying this at home, or at our events for that matter.

July 2007 - The K4 has had a short road run but some problems came to light with the brakes. The master cylinder has been removed and will be overhauled.

This vehicle is currently in the Workshop Building and is not on public display
